Day 1 - These are always that extra long first day, but adrenaline keeps me going, well as much as possible.  My flight light Charlotte on Friday night, had a connection Munich, and then made it Prague about 12.30 on Saturday.  I flew Lufthansa this time and it was superb, besides having a behemoth of a man next to me.  Oh well.  Food, service and everything else was as good as I had on a transatlantic flight.

Wow, I am back in Europe.  How could I tell?  Trains, tubes and that overall European feel.  Ha. I was so eager I even took a picture of the tube while I waited.  Eager or delirious one.

I picked a centrally located Best Western.  Small room and bath, but who cares.  I had 2 nights there and I wasn't planning on being in the hotel.  It was nicely located though.

I was off.  So much to see in such a short time in an amazing city.  Just a few short blocks away was Frank Gehry's Fred and Ginger.  It isn't that practical, but it is beautiful.  It sits right on the Vltava River and as you can tell, it was a gorgeous day.

I circled back to the Old Town Square where I could watch the old Astronomical Clock put on its little show.  Everyone around me said there are certain times where it puts on an extended version, but this wasn't one of those times.  I decided I wait to tour it until it was getting dark.

After a lot of general wandering around, it was back to the river and time for a sunset dinner.  A couple Leffe Bruins, salmon tartar, and some of the greatest fallow deer steaks that I have had.  Plus with the exchange rate, it was extremely affordable.

And this was my view.

Back to the Old Town Square.

The Old Town Hall has had a complicated history, which is needless to say.  Most of it was destroyed in WWII, but the restoration was amazing.

The tour was extremely good and very thorough as you can see.  It was cool going down to old Medieval level, where you could see the old streets and alleyways before a building was put on top of it.

The elevator was insane and looking back at this picture, it was beyond twisted.  I walked up and rode back down by the way.

By the time the tour was done, it was dark and the city was nicely lit up.

What a great first day, (it was a long one).  I walked around as much as I could because I knew my time was limited.  When a buzzy little car about took my knee out, yes I was jaywalking, ha, I decided it was time for bed.  If you don't remember from other tales, I don't sleep on flights really.  So after about 37 hours with not much of a nap, it was time for a snooze, but I was back in Europe!
