Part 2 - Concert at Ommegang Brewery
From the middle of nowhere, I venture further into nowhere. No telling what artists think when their buses are headed down these windy country roads. But finally to the brewery. Several thunderstorms had passed through during the day, but it was clear now or was it? Funny that I thought the skies looked fine now and left the recently purchased poncho and umbrella in the car. The straw you see is covering the moat. Not sure I have ever heard of the beer, but it wasn't half bad either.
Hops in the distance.
Another plus of the show was Trombone Shorty was opening for BHIC. I can't believe I have never been able to see them anywhere after all the years of me liking them. What an amazing set especially if you look to the right of the below picture at what was about to happen.....
It absolutely poured down, but they never missed a single beat. I actually can't believe they didn't stop it for a bit. Luckily, it was right at 72 degrees and being soaked through didn't get too cold on me . Again, this the man and the band to see if you ever get a chance.
It did take awhile for Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals to take the stage, but they played for a couple hours and left it all on the stage for appreciative crowd. I wish I could have gotten a picture of how wet everyone was, but when Ben went on the sun and rainbows came out and the was it for the wet stuff.
They played a great mix of the new and old, with a few extended jams and solos mixed in. Ben's music has always had the pulse of society for me. With all the negative in the news over the last week, it was good to see a musician that bellows passionate pleas for all of us love, heal and to not forget the struggles of others. I always stand in absolute awe when he starts playing. Not quite old enough to have seen Hendrix, but Harper has always been the second coming of Jimi to me. I did a guy was talking to ask if I was in my early 50s though. I told him the drowned rat look apparently adds the years to my young self.
Overall, what an unbelievable day!!! Now if I could only get out of this airport and continue my weekend.
